Candle Box

This handsome candle box borrows heavily from shaker design.  Candle boxes are simple, beautiful and can be used to store any number of household items.  Almost every hand tool in the toolbox is used to complete this project.

Construction of this box is an interesting exercise in dovetails because of the miter joint used to hide the plowed groove (see drawing above).  A thumb pull is hand carved into the lid using a gouge and a chisel.  The finish of the box pictured is nitrocellulose lacquer over stained red oak.  You will not find this joinery in machine made boxes.

I authored a feature article for Woodcraft Magazine covering the hand tool construction methods used to make this box.

Price: $200
