Art Deco Wall Mirror

In this class you will build a beautiful Art Deco inspired wall mirror.  The mitered frame is made of poplar with cherry inlay.  The molding is cut using a Stanley 45 combination plane with a bead cutter.  The finish is Federal Blue acrylic paint for the poplar and Tung Oil for the cherry.  The skills learned in this class can be used to make picture frames or glazed doors or panels.  In this project you will learn to:

bullet

Cut beads with a combination plane

bullet

Use a guide board (also known as a shooting board) and bench plane to cut perfect miters

bullet

Make a mitered frame (its more than getting the miters right)

bullet

Use "v" nails (a specialized nail used by picture framers) to reinforce the glued miter joint

bullet

Inlay the cherry wedge into the frame using a backsaw, chisel and a Stanley router plane
