Testimonials " I want to thank you for your attention to the details in your instruction in the Shaker Box class on the use of traditional hand tools. The time spent in building this simple box helped me understand the use of the hand plane, dovetail and tenon saws. I have moved to larger projects including two 40" x 20" blanket chests. The first one I completed using a router and template to cut the dovetails. The second one was completed by cutting the dovetails entirely by hand. It was much more enjoyable to complete the project entirely by hand. I could not have done this without the training you provided and the level of detail you went into during the Shaker Box class. ... I am looking forward to more classes from you on traditional woodworking tools and methods to create quality woodworking projects." Lester Surrock " Thanks so much for the intro class. I have only used power tools for woodworking up until now! This could open a whole new way to work with wood. You are a good instructor and a nice person." Mike McMahon " I thoroughly enjoyed your class and your relaxed but informative style of teaching." Fernando Villegas " I enjoyed the class. The atmosphere was relaxed, the teaching method informal yet you still managed to emphasize the critical activities necessary to complete each project." Don Hart " I thoroughly enjoyed my class with you yesterday. I learned a lot!" Tim McCloskey " I really enjoyed yesterdays class. It was just the stuff I needed to feel as if I were getting started on the right foot. Today I began getting my own tools together so I can practice what you taught us in preparation for the next class. Thanks again for a great time!" Tom Hallstead "I thank you very much for your professional presentation of the July 10 Basic Woodworking Class covering the basics of proper sharpening, safe hand tool handling, and traditional joinery. I have been using mostly power tools for years but I recently decided to move away from the unhealthy sawdust and noise of my woodworking machines to the more craftsman-like tools of the past. I believe your excellent classroom presentation will be an indispensable assistance to me in the pursuit of that goal. Your instructional techniques are very effective and you managed to cover a lot of practical and relevant material in the eight hours available for the class. Although your classroom is some distance from my home, I am seriously considering taking another coarse in the near future." Norm Herring "I thoroughly enjoyed my second class with you, the accent table class. I'm happy that I got to use so many specialized planes, although it may cost me in the long run because now there are some 'must have' planes calling me! Keep up the good work and I hope to be cutting curly's with you again soon!" Tim McCloskey Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed another of your woodworking classes. The Shaker style candle box you taught me to make was an excellent exercise in dovetails, plowing and freehand planing. I like your classes, because they offer quite a few challenging techniques in each project, resulting in quite a bit of knowledge crammed into one (in this case) day. And, as always, I enjoyed your personalized instruction and company. I'm looking forward to the next class. Tim McCloskey I attended Mr. Huron's Spring Harvest School of Fine Woodworking and found it to be excellent. Mr. Huron teaches the fine art of working with wood using hand tools. These techniques are a must for anyone who desires to improve their skills as a woodworker. Mr. Huron is a good teacher who cares about his students and always has time to work with them even long after the end of class. I would recommend the Spring Harvest School of Fine Woodworking to anyone, whatever their skill level. I plan to take more instruction from Mr. Huron in the future. Mike Saxon The basic woodworking class was interesting and full of information that will better my woodworking skills. I learned the importance of caring for my tools (something that hadn't received much attention). The outstanding instruction assured me that I was on the way to doing better work. Everything was explained in such a way that it was impossible to misunderstand. The hand out with photographed step-by-step instructions is an excellent reference. When I went back to my shop, I felt confident in what I was doing. Peddy Reynolds I really found yesterday's class to be useful and enjoyable. You're an excellent instructor and a highly skilled woodworker. Ken Fine Thank you again for opening the doors of your woodworking school on Wed., March 23, to students participating in the Interior Design/Senior Topics Studio course. The instructive and informative demonstrations that you conducted proved ideal given the nature of the design projects that the students are undertaking this semester. Seeing someone that can convey knowledge and experience while exercising skilled craftwork is not an ordinary experience these days. In the future I would very much hope that UTSA's School of Architecture could benefit from having you conduct similar such demonstrations for our students. Rick Lewis, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture As a beginning woodworker, I thought that creating joints and surfaces with hand tools would be slow and tedious compared to the use of power tools. After taking George's introductory course, I discovered the simple elegance in using hand tools. George presents the material in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The techniques that he teaches are very straight forward and will have the novice making near perfect joints in a very short time. I would highly recommend George's class to anyone who is interested in becoming a better craftsman. Jeff Wrana The class was great, I really enjoyed it and I learned much. It gave me a true appreciation for the hand plane and some of the challenges there are in using it. I think this project was a perfect follow-up to the first class. ... I'm going to finish my salt box this weekend using linseed oil and wax. ... I think the next class I want to take is the candle box class. Jeff Wrana I would like to thank you for the excellent instruction you provide at your woodworking school. It is amazing what a beginner can accomplish in a class. Your patience and manner of teaching makes learning woodworking an enjoyable experience. You provide what woodworking books and videos cannot provide, including but not limited to, the evaluation of your use of woodworking tools and corrections on improper use thereof, continuous supervision while work is in progress, explanation of errors made or those that are going to be made and how to adjust or correct such errors, enabling the student to succeed in his project and progress in building his woodworking skills. I highly recommend the Spring Harvest School of Fine Woodworking for anyone who wishes to learn the proper methods of woodworking. I will continue taking classes from George, as each class expands your knowledge of proper woodworking methods and techniques. Enrique Pellegrin
Your basic class on joinery was a real eye opener. I learned more in the first
2 hrs than I could reading ten books! The woodworking done was much better and
faster than any machine. I have already ordered all hand tools necessary for
less than the cost of some router bits. I am now building my workbench. I am
Hooked.
Thank you very much for a well taught, inspiring class worth twice the money
Gerard Signore I had never built anything from scratch with wood and you made it very easy. Your tools are beautiful and I've always liked being connected with traditions passed down from generation to generation. Olive Roen I just wanted to say thanks again from Jonathan and I for the intro class the other week. We both had a lot of fun and hope to be able to take another class over the Christmas break -- if we can make it that long! Kevin Livingstone I loved the class! Austin Agnew Thanks for a great time and it was a wonderful learning experience! I definitely recommend this class for anyone even if it's just someone who wants to try out woodworking tools. Keep up the good work! Barbara Boesewetter George, I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know what a great time I had (taking your basic class). Craig Claus Thanks for the great class today. I learned a lot and it was a non-stressful class. I'll be back! The step stool is next. Antoinette Dzubay Thanks for a great class. I hope to take many others. I will keep checking the schedule. I hope to take the tool tuning class next. Kim Endres My Dad really liked the class. Thanks again. Joe LaBonte |
